HOPEWELL FRIENDS MEETING
WELCOMES YOU

A Programmed Quaker Meeting

Join us on November 21 for  our annual F(f)riends Day (Thanksgiving) Carry-in following Sunday service.

Hopewell Meeting is located on the edge of the prairie just north of the village of Quaker, IN/IL. The first settlers in the area west of the Wabash River were Richard and Susan (Henderson) Haworth, Friends who came from Tennessee in the autumn of 1820 and began worship services in their home and those of other early Friends who settled in the area. A programmed meeting, Hopewell was originally a Preparative Meeting under Elwood Friends Meeting near Georgetown, IL, becoming its own Monthly Meeting in 1874.

The original cemetery is located just south of the Meeting House, with the current cemetery adjoining the church yard. The parsonage, inhabited by many wonderful pastors and their families, was built around 1900.

Visitors are welcome to explore the current cemetery or attend services. Sunday School is 9:30 am EST, with meeting following at 10:30 am EST. Monthly Meeting for business is the second Sunday (First Day) of the month.

ABOUT

Hopewell starts First Day (Sunday) with Adult Sunday School at
9:30 am EST, followed by Meeting for Worship (Church service) at 10:30 am EST. Our members take turns leading service (presiding) which includes uplifting traditional hymns,
prayer requests, announcements, offering, and food for thought/meaningful readings. The presider concludes this portion of the service by inviting members to enter into a period of open worship, in which members may pray silently or speak prayerfully.  Following this period, the minister brings his or her bible based, insightful message.
